Ocean Isle Beach Local Folkals
Michael Powell is 16 yrs old and a junior at West Brunswick High School. He is on the Surf Unlimited surf sport team in Ocean Isle Beach. When he is not on the water, Michael likes to play tennis or go snowboarding. His favorite surfer is Mick Fanning and Michaels favorite place to surf is Trestles "Lowers" near San Clemente, California. After high school, Michael plans to surf professionally and attend college.
Ben Powell is 15 years old and a sophomore at West Brunswick High School. He is well known for his surfing ability and his favorite surfer is Andy Irons. Ben is on the competition team of Surf Unlimited, www.surfunlimitedsurfshop.com in Ocean Isle Beach. Like his brother, Bens favorite surf is Trestles, "Lowers" in California. Ben loves jetskiing, snowboarding and skating when he is not on his surf board. After high school, Ben plans to attend college and compete professionally.

Chuck Rash is a fulltime fireman in Ocean Isle Beach. Chuck relocated here about 10 years ago from San Diego, California. He is a former Marine and is currently a Captain and Training Officer for the Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department. He is a certified Fire Fighter II and an Emergency Medical Technician. Chuck has an Associate in Science degree from Brunswick County Community College, and is currently working toward a BSE in fire science from the University of Maryland. Chuck enjoys fishing and "hanging out on the beach" when he has free time.
Barbara Karkut is a local artist who lives in Brick Landing Plantation. Barbara, formerly of New Jersey, has lived here for about 8 years. Her favorite media is watercolor. Her works of art can be seen at the Butterfly Gardens, The Roasted Coffee Bean, and Collectors Corner. You can also commission her privately to create a special painting just for you. Barb describes her paintings as "whimsical kissy fish, angels with attitudes, and abstract flowers." Barbara participates in the Waterway Art Associations art shows. She loves to garden and golf when she is not working part-time at Island Realty and K&C Nursery.
